The Breakfast Club

hi from the city of london! this is our first post of the year (happy 2014!)

on wed it was kay hian's birthday so i had brunch with him i asked the birthday boy to pick and he said the breakfast club in soho so that was where we headed to

i googled it before heading there and it seemed promising with over 300+ reviews and 4/5 stars skimmed through reviews and things on there that were mentioned repeatedly include long queues and must-try smoothies

felt a little worried about the queues since we arranged to meet at noon aka lunch hour (apparently queuing for 1/2h is typical? maybe on a weekend)  i reached on the dot he arrived a little earlier but probably not much earlier what i mean to say is he was already at the front of the queue and i didn't have to wait!

we were seated at the corner it was a big rectangular table and we shared it with 2 other groups of 2 kh said this place reminds me of island creamery definitely because the walls were plastered with polaroids and i replied yeah i get why i like how it was done in the cafe more though it felt done up as if it were a wall in someone's bedroom this is a pic of kh smiling : ) but it's also the only pic i have with the wall inside

kh had the all american £10 (pancakes, eggs, sausage, home-style fried potatoes, streaky bacon and maple syrup) and a latte £2.50 while i had reggie the veggie £9.20 (veggie sausage, home-style fried potatoes, eggs, mushrooms, grilled tomato, beans and toasted multigrain bloomer) and a blue monday £4.30 (blueberry, strawberry and apple smoothie)

mine's on the left and kh's on the right both portions were very decent for one although not to the point of being sufficient to share imo mine: the eggs were poached nicely and i liked how the fried potatoes were done but nothing else was particularly fantastic? i enjoyed it a lot and it was a good brunch no doubt but thinking about it now i could probably replicate it at home easily enough for less for the smoothie the reviews drove my expectations up i felt let down and could have done without it good things about it: (relatively) healthy drink, not overly sweeten kh's: i didn't try anything besides the pancakes well i like my pancake fluffy and this wasn't fluffy it was overcooked too rmbr kh saying that they were really generous with the bacon! tldr; not bad not great

anyhow it was a good brunch experience! despite a queue forming outside i never felt rushed service was gd the waitress came over several times to ask if everything was alright also made small talk with her when i paid the bill (heads up: she said the other branches are bigger and less crowded!) surprised that there wasn't an additional service charge in total: £26 a little pricey but would revisit with a friend to catch up over a meal
