Zaffron Kitchen

we did esther's belated birthday dinner (happy belated birthday esther!) at Zaffron Kitchen last night because we were in the mood for indian cuisine and also its convenient location when we got there at ~6.30pm it was mostly unoccupied so i guess bookings are unnecessary on weekday nights

its interior is rustic and homely there is an enticing play corner that i am too old for but wish i took photographs of this implies a suitability for family with younger kids

there was four of us so we decided to order three main dishes + naans to go around this is what we ordered (clockwise from left): dum chicken biryani ($14), garlic naan ($4.50), butter chicken ($16), seekh mutton kebab ($15) [below], butter naan ($4)

while the chicken thigh was tender i didn't think there was anything special about the biryani / the butter chicken curry was my favourite dish we ordered it mainly because it was raved about on hungrygowhere it was full of flavour and spice was of a very manageable level / the mutton kebab comes either in a wrap or skewered you indicate your preference when you order we chose the wrap (which was essentially a naan) it was alright i am probably doing this dish some injustice as i left it far too long in the cold before consuming it the fries side was super though has to do with its seasoning / naans were dipped in the butter chicken i find them a tad expensive and would go for plain next time since the curry's flavour washes out the naans'

on the whole we enjoyed the meal and jieru "[is] going to bring [her] family here" service was good as well kudos on the restaurant for working indian cuisine puns

we gave Zaffron's desserts a miss and made our way to Nine Thirty by Awfully Chocolate next door for cake: (left to right) chocolate salty butterscotch block ($6.50) and chocolate tart the former's taste and texture is similar to a swiss roll and i am not fond of it though its the birthday girl's favourite dessert at AC (my favourite AC dessert is the hazelnut crumble) the chocolate tart was rich but not overwhelming sweet

we also had a pint of hei dark chocolate ice cream i recommend this if you have not tried it it is misfortunate that its price has risen by ~3 dollars since my previous visit two weeks back
