in my capacity as a 'food blogger' i decided that it'd be irresponsible to microwave frozen pizza for breakfast on a daily basis so i baked scones today! plain scones because i didn't have fruits/scone flavouring ingredients lying around the house in fact i almost couldn't bake any at all because i found bugs in my stash of all purpose flour (refrigerate flour it lasts longer and bugs wouldn't get to them) luckily my self raising flour was fine overall an easy recipe i liked my scones try this
plain scones (from here)
makes 9
200g self raising flour (or 200g all purpose flour + 1.5 tsp baking powder + 0.5 tsp salt)
2.5 tbsp sugar
60g butter
150g milk
1 egg
preheat oven to 220 degree celsius
mix flour and sugar together
cube butter and stir it in till butter cubes are at least pea size (use fingers if necessary)
add milk into mixture and mix well (add flour if too watery) - dough is formed
on a floured surface, knead dough (flour hands first!) and roll dough into a disc (~2 - 3 cm thick)
using a cookie cutter cut into dough and place cutouts onto a buttered tray [first photograph below]
repeat the previous two steps until dough is finished
separate yolk from white then add 1 tbsp of milk into yolk and stir [second photograph below]
coat top surfaces with milk + yolk mixture for a golden finish
place tray into oven and bake for ~12-15 min [third photograph below]
serve warm and enjoy with jam and tea
i had my scones with iced earl gray latte and strawberry jam
